Accessible Textbooks for Blind and Visually Impaired Students and Trainers

Access Technology Institute creates original, accessible textbooks for blind and visually impaired students as well as the trainers who teach them. Every textbook is written in-house by ATI and designed to work seamlessly with screen readers and other access technology.

We believe textbooks should do more than list keyboard commands. Our books explain concepts, controls, and navigation strategies so students can understand how Windows and applications work. This concept-driven approach builds lasting skills that apply across programs, not just in one task.

Available Formats

Every ATI textbook includes four formats:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Individually labeled MP3 audio files
  • HTML
  • plain text formats

The Word version is fully formatted for easy navigation with screen readers. MP3 audio providesnarrated recordings for learning on the go. The HTML version offers an accessible web format with headings and links, and plain text delivers a clean, no-format version for maximum compatibility. All formats are included with every purchase so students can move between them as needed. Some textbooks such as Excel and PowerPoint include sample documents.

Our textbooks are used by blind and visually impaired students learning Windows and access technology skills, by trainers who need high-quality teaching materials for structured lessons, by rehabilitation centers and agencies providing technology instruction, and by employers supporting staff with vision loss.
