3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Platform, interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Platform, use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the Platform, resell, sublicense, or otherwise transfer your access rights to any third party, or use the Platform to store or transmit malicious code of any kind.

4. Student Data Responsibility

You are solely responsible for the accuracy of student records you create on the Platform. ATI provides the Platform as a tool for your use and does not independently verify the accuracy or legality of data you enter.

5. Professional Standards

Use of the Platform does not substitute for compliance with applicable professional, ethical, or legal standards governing assistive technology training practice. Privacy Policy

Access Technology Institute is committed to protecting the privacy of its members and their students. This policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect information on the Platform.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including your name, email address, professional credentials, business information, and membership account details. When you use the Platform, we also collect the records you create: student profiles, enrollment records, session notes, invoices, expense records, progress reports, and calendar entries. We collect anonymous aggregate usage statistics (page visit counts, feature usage counts) to improve the Platform. These statistics contain no personally identifiable information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide and operate the Platform, to verify your membership status and access tier, to generate invoices and business documents you request, to support your trainer-student relationships within the Platform, and to communicate with you about your account. We do not sell your personal information to any third party. We do not use your information for advertising. ATI Platform tools are ad-free.

3. Information About Your Students

Student records you create on the Platform are stored securely and are accessible only to you and, where applicable, authorized supervisors with your explicit permission through the Access Grant System. Students may access their own bulletin board and, if enabled, their own student dashboard. Students do not have access to your trainer financial records, session notes about other students, or your business data. You are responsible for ensuring your use of student data complies with all applicable laws. ATI is not a HIPAA-covered entity and does not provide a HIPAA-compliant platform. Do not store protected health information or personal medical information of any kind on this platform.

4. Cookies and Tracking

The Platform uses session cookies for authentication purposes only. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. The anonymous usage statistics we collect are stored server-side and are not linked to your identity.

5. Data Storage and Security

Platform data is stored on servers hosted by DreamHost and, where applicable, on Amazon Web Services S3 for file and image storage. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Authentication tokens are signed using HMAC-SHA256 and expire after one hour. Access to your data is restricted to your authenticated session. No system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

6. Third-Party Services

The Platform uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs its use of any data transmitted to it.

  • Anthropic API: Used for AI-assisted features including progress report summarization, expense category suggestions, and community event extraction from news articles. Only the specific content you request to be processed is transmitted. No student identifying information is transmitted to Anthropic without your explicit action.
  • Amazon Web Services S3: Used for storage of uploaded files including trainer logos, course materials, and receipt images.
  • DreamHost: Web hosting provider for the WordPress installation at blind.training.
  • Vercel: Application hosting provider for the Platform tools.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your membership is active. See the Data Retention Policy section of this page for complete details.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Platform is intended for use by professional assistive technology trainers, not by minors. If a trainer’s student is a minor, the trainer is solely responsible for compliance with applicable laws governing collection of information about minors, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable.

9. California Residents

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. ATI does not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact privacy@blind.training.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time by contacting ATI at support@blind.training. You may request a copy of your data in a portable format within 30 days of your request.

Privacy and Medical Information Disclaimer

IMPORTANT: Please read this section carefully before using the ATI Platform.

1. ATI Is Not a HIPAA-Covered Platform

Access Technology Institute is not a HIPAA-covered entity. The ATI Platform is not designed, certified, or approved for the storage or transmission of Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). ATI makes no representations of HIPAA compliance and provides no Business Associate Agreement to any user under any circumstances.

2. Do Not Post Medical Information

You must not enter, upload, or store any personal medical information, health records, diagnoses, medications, mental health information, disability-related medical details, or any other protected health information about any person on this Platform without that person’s explicit written consent. This prohibition applies to student records, session notes, progress reports, invoices, and all other content areas of the Platform.

3. What You May Store

The Platform is designed for storing training-related information only: student contact details, enrollment and scheduling information, training session records, lesson progress, course materials, and business records related to your training practice. A student’s name, contact information, and the fact that they receive assistive technology training are not in themselves protected health information and are appropriate to store. Medical diagnoses, prescription information, clinical records, and detailed disability medical histories are not appropriate to store on this Platform under any circumstances.

4. You Are Solely Responsible

You are solely and exclusively responsible for all content you enter into the Platform. ATI expressly disclaims all liability for any content you post that violates HIPAA, state privacy laws, or any other applicable law or regulation. By using this Platform you agree that ATI bears no responsibility whatsoever for your decision to enter any particular information, and that any legal consequences arising from your posting of medical, health, or protected personal information are entirely your own responsibility. This disclaimer applies regardless of whether the information was entered accidentally, negligently, or intentionally.

5. AI Features and Sensitive Information

When you use AI-assisted features such as progress report summarization, the text of your session notes is transmitted to Anthropic’s API for processing. You must not include any medical information, diagnoses, or other sensitive personal details in session notes that you intend to process with AI. ATI is not responsible for any information you choose to transmit through AI features.

6. If You Work with VR-Funded Students

If your training practice involves students funded through vocational rehabilitation agencies or other programs that may be subject to HIPAA or other privacy laws, you are solely responsible for determining your own compliance obligations. Consult a qualified healthcare or privacy attorney before using this Platform to manage records for such students. ATI cannot and does not advise you on your legal obligations.

7. No Legal Advice

Nothing on this page or anywhere on this Platform constitutes legal advice. ATI strongly recommends that all trainers consult with a qualified attorney regarding their privacy and data security obligations before storing any student information on any platform.

Accessibility Statement

Access Technology Institute is committed to ensuring that the Platform is fully accessible to people with disabilities. Accessibility is not an afterthought — it is the core purpose of this organization.

1. Our Commitment

The ATI Platform is designed from the ground up for use with assistive technology. Every tool is built to work correctly with JAWS for Windows, NVDA, VoiceOver on iOS and macOS, and other major screen readers. We test with JAWS on every feature before release. All interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements.

2. Accessibility Features

Every Platform tool includes the following accessibility features:

  • Skip to main content links on every page
  • Logical heading hierarchy using H1 through H6
  • All form fields have visible, associated labels
  • All buttons and links have descriptive accessible names
  • Focus is managed programmatically — focus moves to the appropriate element after every action
  • All dialogs use role=”dialog” with aria-modal=”true” and focus trapping
  • ARIA live regions announce dynamic content changes to screen readers
  • All ARIA menus support arrow key navigation, Home, End, and first-letter navigation
  • Accessible date pickers using three combo boxes instead of inaccessible native date inputs
  • Mobile optimized with minimum 44 by 44 pixel touch targets
  • No content relies on color alone to convey meaning
  • No auto-playing media or flashing content
  • All accessible date selectors use month, day, and year combo boxes — no inaccessible native date picker

3. Known Limitations

We are continuously improving the Platform. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please report it using the Report Page Issue option in the Dashboard navigation menu, or contact ATI at accessibility@blind.training. We will respond within 5 business days.

4. Screen Reader Quick Keys Used on This Platform

JAWS and NVDA users can use the following quick keys to navigate Platform tools:

  • H: Move to the next heading
  • R: Move to the next region or landmark
  • B: Move to the next button
  • F: Move to the next form field
  • T: Move to the next table
  • L: Move to the next list
  • I: Move to the next list item
  • M: Move to the next frame
  • Add Shift to any key to move backwards

5. Alternative Formats

If you need Platform documentation or training materials in an alternative format, contact ATI at accessibility@blind.training.

Data Retention Policy

1. Active Membership

All data you create on the Platform is retained for as long as your membership is active and in good standing.

2. Membership Termination

When your membership ends, your data enters a 30-day grace period during which you may log in to export or download your records. After the 30-day grace period, ATI reserves the right to permanently delete your account data. ATI will make reasonable efforts to notify you before deletion.

3. Student Records

Student records are retained as long as the associated trainer account is active. Trainers are responsible for maintaining their own copies of student records they are required to retain under applicable law. ATI does not guarantee long-term archival of student records and is not a substitute for a trainer’s own record-keeping obligations.

4. Bulletin Board Records

Bulletin board records follow a specific retention schedule. Active boards are retained while the enrollment is in progress. When an enrollment ends, the board enters a seven-day grace period where both parties may still post. After that, the board is archived and becomes read-only for six months. After six months, the board is soft-deleted and visible only to the trainer for an additional six months. After twelve months from enrollment end, the board is permanently deleted. Students receive notifications at one month, two weeks, and two days before their board access ends.

5. Financial Records

Invoice and expense records are retained for as long as your membership is active. ATI recommends that you export and maintain your own copies of financial records for tax purposes. ATI is not responsible for financial record-keeping compliance with IRS or state tax requirements.

6. Analytics Data

Anonymous aggregate usage statistics are retained indefinitely. These statistics contain no personally identifiable information and cannot be linked to any individual user.

7. Uploaded Files

Files uploaded to the Platform including trainer logos, course materials, and receipt images are stored on Amazon Web Services S3. These files are retained as long as your membership is active and may be deleted as part of account termination.

Artificial Intelligence Disclosure

The ATI Platform uses artificial intelligence features powered by Anthropic’s Claude API. This disclosure explains which features use AI, what data is processed, and what you should know before using these features.

1. AI-Powered Features

The following Platform features use the Anthropic Claude API:

  • Progress Report Summarization (Session Manager): Drafts trainer notes from your session records for the selected date range.
  • Expense Category Suggestions (Business Manager): Suggests IRS Schedule C expense categories based on expense descriptions you enter.
  • Community Event Extraction (Newsfeed and Calendar): Automatically extracts upcoming events from accessibility news articles.

2. What Data Is Transmitted

When you use an AI feature, only the specific content relevant to that feature is transmitted to Anthropic’s API. For progress report summarization, your session notes for the selected date range are transmitted along with the student name and course name. For expense categorization, only the expense description text is transmitted. For event extraction, news article titles and summaries are transmitted. No financial account information, passwords, authentication tokens, or complete student profiles are ever transmitted to the AI service.

3. AI Output Is a Draft

All AI-generated content on the Platform is clearly labeled as AI-drafted and is intended as a starting point only. You are responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving all AI-generated content before it is saved or submitted. ATI does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content for any particular purpose.

4. AI Features and Sensitive Information

When you use AI summarization features, the text of your session notes is transmitted to Anthropic’s API. You must not include medical information, diagnoses, or other sensitive personal details in notes you process with AI. See the Privacy and Medical Information Disclaimer section of this page for the full notice.

5. Anthropic’s Data Practices

Anthropic maintains its own privacy policy governing how it processes data submitted to its API. ATI uses the Anthropic API under terms that prohibit Anthropic from using submitted content to train its models without consent. For the most current information about Anthropic’s data practices, visit anthropic.com.
